It’s not looking a lot like Christmas!

I can’t tell you how much it does NOT feel like Christmas here. So last week, in a desperate attempt to get into the Christmas spirit, I put on some Perry Como. Now imagine this… the front doors are wide open onto the veranda, outside there’s barely a breeze so the palm trees are standing absolutely still, the celing fan pointlessly whirs away as it only stirs the 32°C air laiden with 78% humidity, the buganvilia growing along the fence is in full bloom with bright purple, white, and orange flowers, and every couple of minutes you hear the soft plump of a mango falling out of the tree in the front yard who’s limbs now sag from the weight of all the fruit. The smell in the air is a combination of sweet frangipani flowers and wet humus from the recent rain. Birds that I still can’t identify sing strange songs and are only interrupted every so often by the crow of a rooster. It’s against this backdrop that poor old Perry and the Fontane Sisters now have to perform their hit single, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”! Now when you actually hear the song, all you can do is laugh and say, “No Perry… it’s not.”
